![]() If one seeks a classic, Colt Model 1860 Army revolver in excellent condition, this original, early war revolver fits the bill. Overall, this Colt exhibits a very pleasing dusky gray patina. Exterior surface shows scattered light wear marks, all proper and normal for this sidearm’s age and use. The revolver features a clear “COLTS / PATENT” stamp on the left side of the frame. ![]() Equipped with a four-screw frame made to fit a shoulder stock and has the recoil shield cutouts on the frame and has the small notch in the iron buttplate. Sidearm has strong half cock and full cock positions with tight indexing. Engraving is light but cylinder still bears the patent date stamping “ENGAGED ” on the periphery and “SEPT 10 TH, 1850” below the serial number.Ĭylinder nipples all intact and two of the cylinder pins are still visible. Cylinder exhibits the roll engraved scene of the naval engagement between the Republic of Texas Navy and Mexico. Has all matching serial numbers on the frame, cylinder, barrel, wedge, triggerguard, backstrap and spline. Early serial number #4040 indicates this revolver was produced by the Colt armory in the 1 st quarter of 1861. Sidearm exhibits remains of its silver-wash on the brass trigger guard and backstrap with the wash turned to black. ![]() No inspector’s cartouches visible on either side, nor does it have any bluing or case colors remaining. Excellent, one-piece black walnut grips are varnished and exhibit normal hand wear from use. All gun metal appears to be very lightly cleaned and wears a light-gray sheen mixed with mottled light and dark spots of oxidation overall. Barrel address of “ADDRESS SAML COLT HARTFORD CT.” is strong. 44 caliber, four-screw model with a 6-shot rebated cylinder and an 8” round barrel. ![]() The government-issued Colt Army 44 was the major sidearm in use by US troops during the Civil War. The Colt specimen is one of some 200,000 M1860 Army revolvers made from 1860 through 1873 and was the successor type to the larger Colt Third Model Dragoon horse pistol.
